Frequently asked questions

Common topics travellers ask — from first install to roaming and refunds. Use the search above to filter these answers.

Getting started

What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is a digital SIM built into many modern phones. Instead of a plastic card, your plan is downloaded over the internet (usually via QR code). You can store multiple eSIM profiles and switch between them in Settings — ideal for travel data without swapping SIM cards.
How do I check if my phone supports eSIM?
Open your phone settings and look for “Add eSIM” or “Add cellular plan” (wording varies by brand). You can also review our device compatibility page. Your device must be carrier‑unlocked for eSIM to work with a travel data plan.
How do I purchase an eSIM and receive it?
Choose a destination or regional plan at checkout. After payment succeeds, you’ll receive your eSIM details (typically a QR code and manual activation fields). Keep that email or order screen handy until installation is complete — treat the QR like a one‑time voucher.

Installation & setup

Do I need an app to install an eSIM?
No dedicated app is required for most devices. You install from Settings using QR scan or manual entry (SM‑DP+ address and activation code). Follow our step‑by‑step installation guide for iPhone and Android.
When should I install my eSIM — before I travel or after I arrive?
You can install before you leave (recommended so you’re ready at the airport) or after you land — as long as you have internet for the download step (Wi‑Fi is fine). Some plans start counting validity from first network attachment; check your plan details at purchase. Until you need data abroad, you can keep mobile data on your primary SIM and only switch default data to the travel eSIM when you arrive.
Can I install the same QR code on two phones?
Usually no — most eSIM QR codes are single‑use and tied to one device profile. If you changed phones or accidentally removed the eSIM, contact support with your order number; we’ll advise based on carrier rules and your plan status.

Using your plan

When does my data package start and expire?
It depends on the plan: some start when you first connect to a partner network in a covered country; others may begin at activation or install. Expiry is shown in your plan description (e.g. 7 days, 30 days from first use). After allowance is used or the validity ends, data stops until you purchase a new plan or top‑up where available.
When should I enable data roaming?
Turn on Data roaming for the travel eSIM while you’re in your destination. Travel eSIMs often rely on partner networks abroad, so roaming must be enabled for that line. You can leave roaming off on your primary SIM if you want to avoid accidental charges there.
Can I use hotspot / tethering with my eSIM?
Where the underlying network allows it, many data plans support personal hotspot — but policies vary by region and partner. If hotspot is disabled, it’s usually a network restriction, not your phone. Check your plan’s details or try again on a different coverage band after a reboot.
Does my eSIM include a local phone number for calls and SMS?
Most travel data eSIMs are data‑only. They may not include a traditional phone number for calls or SMS. You can keep your primary SIM for WhatsApp / iMessage / VoIP over Wi‑Fi or mobile data, depending on your setup.

Troubleshooting

I installed the eSIM but there’s no data — what should I try?
  • Set Mobile data / Cellular data to use the travel eSIM.
  • Enable Data roaming for that eSIM line.
  • Toggle Airplane mode off/on or restart the phone.
  • Confirm you’re in a covered destination and the plan hasn’t expired.
  • Revisit the installation guide for your OS version.
Why is my eSIM showing “No service” or failing to activate?
Check signal in an open area, ensure the plan is valid for your current country, and that the eSIM wasn’t removed. Update iOS/Android to a recent version. If the QR was already used on another device, you’ll need a replacement from support. Include your order ID and device model when contacting us.
Can I use multiple eSIMs at the same time?
Many phones support dual SIM — e.g. physical SIM + eSIM or two eSIMs (varies by model). You can store several eSIM profiles but only use one or two actively depending on hardware. Label lines clearly in Settings so you don’t roam on the wrong plan.

Orders, refunds & privacy

How do refunds work?
Refund rules depend on whether the eSIM was installed or used. Read the full policy on our Refunds page before purchasing. If you’re unsure, contact support before installing the QR.
How is my personal data handled?
We process order and account data as described in our Privacy policy. We use industry‑standard protections for payments and do not sell your personal information.

Still stuck?
